It is estimated that mobile phone sales will increase to more than 2 billion units by 2019, which will fuel the increasing demand for enterprise mobile apps. This leads researchers to believe that the demand for mobile apps will surpass development capacity five times over.

Leading technology research firm Gartner, Inc. estimates that mobile phone apps will be in high demand; it will likely surpass IT firms’ ability to deliver them by as early as 2017. As it is increasingly difficult to hire top notch developers with the necessary skills and experience, enterprises find it challenging to develop, deploy and maintain mobile applications rapidly and effectively. Mobile apps are also becoming more tactical, rather than strategic, as firms find it more challenging to be competitive.

It is estimated that employees working in today’s digital workplace, use around three different devices every day, and this is estimated to increase to five or six in the next few years. This is largely due to things like wearable technology and the Internet of Things, which is becoming more and more popular every day. Employees can also choose the devices and apps they work with, giving them freedom to choose what they want to, in order to complete a task. This puts added pressure on mobile app developers to develop a wider range of apps in a shorter time frame.

Overcoming App Development Challenges

The first method to overcome app development challenges is to prioritize mobile app development. Teams are often stressed and pressurized to deliver apps in a short time period, and they often have a growing amount of apps in their development queue. Apps should always be value driven, with the efficient use of IT resources. Development teams need to understand the needs of their clients and develop a plan that will allow for the proper evaluating of mobile app projects.

The next tip for app development teams is to use RMAD tools. RMAD (Rapid Mobile App Development) tools allow you to produce an app more effectively and rapidly, which is crucial for companies to help close the gap between supply and demand. Traditional coding methods are being replaced with RMAD tools, and this includes drag-and-drop tools, code generation and virtualization.

Although most development teams want to keep app development projects completely in-house, it may prove difficult – especially when it comes to specifics like cellular coverage testing and UX design. Outsourcing some of these requirements will give your team the help they need, and they can focus on what they do best. Not all developers are experienced in every single aspect of developing an app from start to finish, so using combination of in-house talent and outsourcing abilities, you’ll be able to improve your productivity and keep up with the ever-increasing demand.

According to principal research analyst Adrian Leow, from Gartner, “Mobile strategists must use tools and techniques that match the increase in mobile app needs within their organizations.” With a combination of using the right tools and outsourcing to third party developers, you’ll be able to boost your ability to rapidly develop and deploy mobile apps, while keeping ahead of the competition.
